New Canter Automatic Models Released

Fuso are pleased to announce the release of automatic variants for the Canter light truck. Selected FE84D and FE85D models will be available from June production in Japan with an Aisin MY600 6 speed fully automatic transmission in combination with the 130kW version of the Fuso 4M50 engine.

Fuso Australia believe that this driveline combination will provide all customers, regardless of their level of driving experience, with effortless driving while maintaining the core Canter strengths of reliability and low life cycle costs.

Features and benefits include:

Fully automatic transmissions provide the best possible transition for new truck drivers, most of whom drive automatic cars
The Fuso 4M50-3AT8 engine produces a class leading 130kW of power and 530Nm of torque. This allows the vehicle to hold higher gears on hills to minimise fuel use, reduce in cab noise and further improve the ease of driving
Automatic gear controller retains in dash position to maintain ergonomic cab layout
Only full automatic transmissions offer continuous transmission of power. Automated transmission break the power transmission when changing gears and this can sometimes happen at inopportune times. With continuous power available, operators cannot be "caught out" by the vehicle changing gear when they pull out in traffic or need avoid an accident
The Canter Automatic provides a wide spread of gear ratios from 3.74 to 0.63, including two overdrive gears. This provide the ideal mix of performance and economy, in both urban and rural areas
The exhaust brake is activated whenever the accelerator pedal is released unless the vehicle speed is less than 10 km/h or a gear shifting is being carried out. This will reduce stopping distances and improve the life of brake components
Although fully automatic, the transmission allows for the maximum gear to be manually selected to prevent the vehicle gaining more speed than desired, such as when travelling downhill. Gears "2" and "3" can be selected from the gear lever and are ideal for achieving maximum engine braking at low and moderate speeds. Over drive can be locked out via a button on the gear lever which effective makes gear "4" the highest useable gear. Overdrive lock out is ideal for controlling and restricting the vehicles speed range. These added driver control features improve safety and further reduce the wear and tear on braking components.
The gearbox is an electronically controlled hydraulic transmission. The electronics allow the gearbox greater self protection to ensure reliability. For example: Even with the overdrive in the "OFF" position, the 5th and 6th gears will be automatically selected if there is any risk of the engine over-revving.
Aisin automatic transmissions have been proven in the Rosa bus application where they have been reliable and easy to operate
